The Walk for Water initiative and updates on the Key Clubber’s Strava progress

by Hannah Huang

Keys clubbers have taken it to another level with the walk for water initiative. Some have pushed themselves to walk, run, and even bike almost every day. As of July 26, 9 members have been active on this initiative. The members have travelled to many locations in the local area of BC, some walked on the trails in the Lower Mainland, while others walked in cities and neighbourhoods of the Greater Vancouver! This initiative allowed members to support the cause and provide donations while also getting their daily exercises.

Now it’s time to reveal the current distance leaders! In third place, we have Emily who walked 52.92km! In second place we have Leon who walked 56.6km! And in first place, we have Sunny with 214.4km of walking and biking! Amongst the 9 active members, all of them have walked for more than 9km!

This project is so important because the donations go towards providing clean water for those who need it urgently to stay healthy. People worldwide die every year from diseases caused by unsafe drinking water, lack of sanitation, and insufficient water for hygiene. Around the world, waterways are contaminated with chemicals, waste, plastic, and other pollutants. Currently, 844 million people on our planet lack access to safe, clean drinking water and over 200 million are walking an average of 4 miles per day to gather water. By 2050, almost half of the world’s population may face water shortages. Trees absorb water and release it into the atmosphere—the average tree breathes out 250-400 or more gallons of water in one day. Join us in this journey and help out those suffering from drinking dirty water and walking miles just for one of their most important basic need! #thegrinddontstop
