Key Clubbers took to the beaches of Jericho to collect garbage in the sand and nearby environments. Check out our totals below!
Members arrived at Jericho Parking Lot (East) at 12:00pm to unload the supplies: garbage bags, tongs, gloves, and a personal categorized tally sheet to keep track of findings.
The group first ventured onto the beach, riddled with cigarette butts and drink cans from the previous day.
It began to rain, but everyone was keen to contribute their effort to help the environment!
As well, volunteers had the opportunity to savour the local wildlife. Spotted on Sunday were wild rabbits, ducks, even a Great Blue Heron!
The 2021 Shoreline Cleanup marked the first event hosted by the 2021-22 Executive team, lead by Jenny Jia (President), Austin Lee (Vice President), Tony Zhang (Treasurer), Leon Zhang (Secretary), and Angela Yao (Editor), meant to tackle the environmental challenges that COVID has induced on going out activities such as increased littering from frequent beach days.
All in all, the event was well-worthy of celebration, and many members of the public even commended us for taking on this service initiative in the wet weather! Stay tuned for more events as the summer approaches.
